Vote YES on Bring Chicago Home

On March 19th Chicagoans will go to the polls to not only choose their next State Senator and State’s Attorney, but they will also be asked to vote on a referendum called “Bring Chicago Home”. The proposed referendum will adjust the real estate transfer tax and create an annual fund to help our unhoused neighbors in Chicago. In these past few days when we have experienced the coldest temperatures of the year, over 68,000 Chicagoans will be sleeping outside or in shelters. Over 17,000 are children. The proposed Bring Chicago Home initiative will generate an annual fund over $100 million dollars that will combat homelessness and provide more affordable housing for thousands of families. The real estate transfer tax is only applied when a property is sold, so this will not affect your property taxes. These changes to the real estate transfer tax will lower the taxes paid on over 93% of the homes sold in Chicago and only raise transfer taxes on properties sold over $1 million.
I urge you to vote “YES” on the Bring Chicago Home ballot referendum and create lasting benefits for our unhoused neighbors. - Geary
