Why I’m running for Illinois State Senate.

Hi neighbor.

My name is Geary Yonker and I’m running for Illinois State Senate in the 20th District that covers most of Logan Square, Avondale, and Belmont/Cragin, plus parts of Irving Park, Lakeview, and Bucktown.

I was born on the Southside of Chicago but have called these communities my home for the past 30 years.

My wife Heather and I have been raising our kids and sharing our home in Logan Square with friends and family since 2002. Our kids were both born at St. Elizabeth’s near Division and Western and my father also passed away there. These neighborhoods are a part of us.

For the past 20 years I have been raising money for non-profits and helping organize my community on the west side of Logan Square. I am also one of the founders of the Logan Square Arts Festival which has brought the community together now for 15 years.

I am getting into this race because I believe the needs of working families and everyday people are always overlooked. With your help we can change that. Look, we have all been through a lot over the past few years but working together I think we can rebuild Illinois into a place where the needs of everyday people come first.

  • Where everyone has access to affordable housing

  • Where we have excellent schools in every neighborhood

  • Where young families are not burdened by the high costs of child care

  • Where we all have good paying jobs with benefits, not gigs

  • Where we have safe streets and a renewed sense of community

We’re working every day to collect the thousands of signatures needed to get on the ballot. Please let us know if you would like us to stop by your home, event, or neighborhood meeting.

Working together we can rebuild Illinois and put the needs of everyday people first.

See you out in the neighborhood,

Geary
